This page covers the foundational ideas of the HOAG universe — history, culture, biology, spirituality, science, and social structure.

Society & Culture

Chinglish

A language that emerged in the 21st and 22nd centuries, merging ancient American English and Chinese into a single universal trade script. One of the predecessor languages to MultiSpeakUniversal.

MultiSpeakUniversal

The default language shared by all Persons and Personates throughout the colonized galaxies. A lingua franca that evolved from the collapse of earlier language barriers.

HomeWorld

The current name for Earth. As humanity colonized the galaxies, Earth was renamed HomeWorld in recognition of its role as the ancestral origin of all human and Personate life.

HomeWorldOriginals (GO)

Humans born on HomeWorld whose reproduction and genetics remain unchanged from 21st-century practices. Genetically unmodified. The definition of a Genetic Original.

GalacticPig Super-Group

Once known as the Milky Way's local group — a cluster of approximately 50 galaxies including the Milky Way, Andromeda, Triangulum, and many globular clusters. The GalacticPig Super-Group is the scope of colonized space, settled by Persons, Personates, corporations, and unions.

Personates

The Genetically Enhanced (GEs). Descendants of Old Earth genetic modification programs that produced advanced offshoots of original Homo Sapiens. Modified for survival on colony worlds, Personates are the dominant human variant beyond HomeWorld.

HighEd

A Person or Personate who is formally educated and has typically undertaken additional cortical enhancements as part of their academic development. A social and intellectual classification.

Orbii

Personates who have adapted their bodies for permanent life in zero-gravity and vacuum conditions within the Sol system. Typically two meters or taller. Their homes are called OrbitalProppis.

Spacers

Humans whose home is interplanetary space within the Sol system. Distinguished from Orbii by degree of physical adaptation — Spacers are visitors or residents of space, while Orbii are physiologically adapted to it.

TroughCults

Isolated zones where PanOriginal cultures have maintained their identity, rejecting technology and outside contact. Most are reclusive. Approximately seven TroughCults exist on HomeWorld, including the Himalayan culture that raised Soo Lingg.

RedBubbleCult

A zone on the ancient African continent, in the region once known as Lesotho in the 21st century. The cult rejects all technology and education, preferring ancient rituals — including cannibalism. Members are known as DrugInjectors (see Objects & Technology) and are monitored whenever they leave their bubble.

Conservatory

An area preserved in its natural state as it existed between the 19th and 22nd centuries. Typically includes parks and museum cities — living records of pre-technological or early-technological civilization.

Ruin Conservancy Zone (RCZ)

Ruins conserved in their original state, which may include ancient radiation or radioactive contamination. Entry requires both a permit and a SoftSuit. These sites are protected as historical records, however dangerous.

PanOriginal

Any custom, artifact, language, or person of standard Old Earth origin — unmodified, pre-colonial, rooted in the world as it was before galactic expansion.

OldeNorthAmerican

Any custom, artifact, or language originating in North America during the 21st century.

ReelWorld

Pop culture and pop culture media. The mainstream entertainment ecosystem of the era.

NewFunkten

Modern, cool, hip — typically associated with music or entertainment venues. The aesthetic of the contemporary popular moment.

Biology & Enhancement

PureDigital (PD)

A constrained form of Artificial Intelligence that cannot achieve consciousness, governed by a regulator that caps its intelligence ceiling. Adopted universally after the destruction caused by first-generation Rogue AI. Persons may carry PureDigital cortex enhancements.

PureElectric

An entity with no physical presence — incorporeal — yet capable of affecting matter in the real universe and recognized as a conscious being. Server is the primary known example.

MindFile

A data file transferred directly into memory by a second party. Can be loaded into a biological cortex or a PureDigital cortex enhancement. Content ranges from personal notes and schedules to entire academic courses. A MindFile recipient must have a cortex prepared to receive the transfer.

OnceYou

A person's past emotional and physical state of being, recorded and stored. Can be played back through PureDigital reference systems, allowing a person (or another) to re-experience their own past from the inside.

Kiv

To transfer information of a personal nature — schedules, thoughts, feelings. Often refers to a private MindFile exchange. To incarnate another person's experience into one's own mind.

Pod

An emotional implant-like exchange in which two people share the same emotion simultaneously — typically joy or excitement. To be Pod with someone is an act of total empathic alignment.

DirivitiveCulling (sensory participants)

A cognitive process of filtering and prioritizing incoming sensory information — discarding the irrelevant to sharpen focus on what matters. A deliberate, trained selectivity of perception.

Spirituality & Meditation

SixthSense

The ability to perceive another person's feelings — and at times, to transfer thoughts — through means once described as telepathy. Cultivated through intensive meditative training at the Monastery in the YungwalaCultBubble within the Himalayan mountains (ancient Tibet). The Lhasa Monastery is the central capitol of this practice.

MyScriptureBeing

A secondary consciousness developed through extreme meditation that houses an individual's religious teachings and scriptures. A living internal archive of spiritual knowledge.

NeuralFonteniour (sub-base)

A connective network of neural pathways linking the subconscious and conscious mind — developed through meditative training rather than technological enhancement.

PrefrontaryCorticalPneumonicLoop

An intensive cognitive mantra that runs in the subconscious background. A means to lock in an emotion or train of thought through repetition in the prefrontal cortex. A technique passed down through generations at the Lhasan Monastery. Creates a self-reinforcing memory or emotional state without technological assistance.

ForceInitiate

An internal neurological act of forcibly starting a mental discipline or thought route — willing the mind into a specific mode of operation.

ErrorMoment

A moment of retrospective clarity — recognizing a past action as a mistake and extracting understanding from it. The practice of identifying ErrorMoments involves:

  1. Identifying the specific action or behavior under review
  2. Assessing the outcome and whether it matched intent
  3. Examining the motivations and assumptions that drove the action
  4. Identifying biases that may have shaped the decision
  5. Considering alternate approaches
  6. Extracting lessons for future situations
  7. Seeking outside perspective from those involved

ErrorMoment reflection is understood as continuous, requiring openness and self-awareness.

Science & Cosmology

SMOSA (Super Massive Orbiting Singularity Anomaly)

Specialized space-time anomalies identified in the late 21st century — orbiting clusters of massive singularities and phase objects. Distortions in spacetime around SMOSAs enabled massive inter-galactic hops, first achieved in the 26th century and refined to reliable accuracy by the 32nd century. The mechanism behind galactic-scale travel.

SpaceTyme

An area of physical space that has been naturally or artificially modified by massive energetic forces, altering its quantum dimensionality. Typically generated by TransferStation activity near SMOSA points.

SkyFall

A catastrophic historical event that occurred approximately 1,000 years before Soo Lingg's birth. An attack on HomeWorld that came close to sterilizing the entire planet and its moon. The defining trauma of HomeWorld's modern history.

DestroyerActions

War or catastrophe on a planetary or galactic scale — any event that eliminates an entire population or settlement within the known colonized universe.

BlackFreeSpace

An encrypted private zone for exchanging personal — typically sexual — content and emotional experience. To Kiv emotionally within a protected digital space.

Pearl

The home planet of the Hoag species. Believed to be the origin world of a civilization billions of years old. Pearl is atmospherically violent, possesses two moons, and is tidally locked between the planets Clark and Wells in the Pearl Solar System. Its star, Cinder, is a white dwarf.

OmniBlock

A massive AI firewall developed by the Exiters to seal the Andromeda galaxy against intrusion by Server, other AI, or biological life. The technological barrier that defines the frontier between humanish civilization and the Exiter domain.
